History
Ministry of Waterways and Civil Aviation and Ministry of Transport, Posts and Telecommunications were formed after Myanmar gained independence. In 1972, they were reconstituted as the Ministry of Transport and Communications which had 17 organizations.

On 1st September 1992 the name of "Transport Planning Department" was but under the Ministry of Rail Transportation.
Road  and  Inland Water Transport Authority  was established  in September 1, 1963.
ျမန္မာႏုိင္ငံတြင္ပထမဦးဆံုး မီးရထားပုိ႕ေဆာင္ေရး လုပ္ ငန္းကုိ ၁၈၇၇ခုႏွစ္၊ ေမ(၁) ရက္ေန႕တြင္ရထားစတင္ေျပး ဆြဲျခင္းျဖင့္ ဖြင့္လွစ္ခဲ့ ပါသည္။
In 1989, the word 'corporation' was dropped and the organization was called 'Road Transport' according to the marked oriented system.
Central Institute of Transport and Communications was established at Symalite Dockyard, Yangon  on 9th  May ,1972.
